Alexandrina Connect Inc. is a not-for-profit community association, managing The Goolwa Community Centre in Goolwa, South Australia. We are a committed group of community members working toward our vision of “A strong, vibrant and inclusive community in which people feel supported to connect and learn from each other.”
A very active community hub for all ages and interests, we provide a place for Goolwa – Fleurieu residents, community groups and specialist programs to meet and engage in culture, inclusion, diversity and connectedness. Our programs encourage self expression, creativity and community engagement projects.
Alexandrina Connect Inc. offers a number of services to residents in the Alexandrina Council region, and holds health promotion events, such as Pink Ribbon Day. It fills the gaps of badly needed services in Health, Information & skills training, Arts & crafts, Environment, Social inclusion and Respite.
Alexandrina Connect Inc. was formed in 2015, in response to Goolwa’s Create and Connect art program losing funding and facing permanent closure. The community came together to create Alexandrina Connect and the Goolwa Community Centre in order to continue the program. Read more about how and why we came about in Our Story.
The benefits of an arts based program, for the community and the clients include :
- Preventative health – less reliance on traditional health services, reducing costs to the community
- Increased social interaction and inclusion
- Caring for disadvantaged people by providing a centre for them to feel welcomed and cared for
- Greater sense of wellbeing
- Increased personal and community resilience and strength.
Alexandrina Connect is incorporated, with a vision for the future. Read more about our Strategic Plan and Future Vision. We have the support of local service clubs, community organisations, Alexandrina Council and the Goolwa & District Community Bendigo Bank.
Our Activity Programs encourage diversity, connection, inclusion, therapy, wellbeing, networking and the building of community and an extended family for people from all walks of life.
Create and Connect
Create and Connect is an Art, Music and Wellbeing Program established in Goolwa 10 years ago to support people in the community that may be socially isolated due to Disability, Mental Health, Carers, Home Schooling etc.
The Create and Connect program also has many people in our community attending with an interest in the arts, wanting to develop their skills and connect with the community they live in.
This created a diverse intergenerational group with ages ranging from 17-89 years, who are able to get together in a creative sanctuary and socialise.
The program celebrates diversity and creativity through self expression and community engagement activities.
